Austin Houghton, born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has been a Houston native since 2002. His pageantry arts journey began as a saxophone player at Spring High School. After closing out his senior year as drum major, and as a two-time TMEA All-State Musician, he went on to perform with Spirit Independent Open Winterguard, the 2017 Zingali winning Santa Clara Vanguard color guard, and 2019 world class finalist, Black Gold Independent Winterguard. He has since been teaching, designing, and choreographing in many capacities across Texas and Louisiana, most recently as color guard director of Stratford High School and assistant staff member to the Klein Oak Color Guard. He also served on staff for Spirit Independent and Black Gold.
Mr. Houghton is currently pursuing his bachelor’s degree in biomedical science and has plans to become a high school science teacher in the near future. He aspires to teach and enrich the futures of his students through the arts, and through science, with the primary goal of helping children develop into confident and determined young adults. He is very excited to be joining the Wildcat family and extends his thanks for welcoming him in!
